2019 marks the tenth 12 months of service to the Charlotte neighborhood for JazzArts Charlotte, previously Jazz Arts Initiative. We are proud to continue our work because the premiere jazz organization in Charlotte with our focus on neighborhood enrichment through high quality music training, reside performances, and musician support. Commander Koichi Wakata of the Japan Aerospance Agency and Flight Engineer Rick Mastraccio of NASA sent a message of goodwill to all those celebrating International Jazz Day in 2014. Representing the Expedition 39 crew aboard the International Space Station, their message equated science and music. The science aboard the International Space Station, very similar to music, is all about attempting to understand the unseen.

We’re updating a list of live musical performances from all over the world, categorized by date and genre. A good contact on the DVDs is that when a bit of music is playing then pressing the “info” button on the DVD or its handset, brings up a screen in regards to the music being performed, e.g. title of music, who wrote it, who’s playing, when was it recorded, and so forth. Covers the birth of jazz, swing period, transfer to bebop, free modal very nicely, but there is only scant coverage of more fashionable moves within the subject of jazz.
