We also have scanning facilities and printing available for a small charge of 20p per black and white A4 print and 65p per colour A4 print. As well as computers with free internet access, you can also find access to many online reference resources including Ancestry Library Edition. Many of these are available 24/7 from any device with an internet connection but there are some services that are only available on library computers because of licensing restrictions. It’s easy – you can book a 2-hr session in an activeIT centre up to a week in advance, either in person, by phone or 24/7 or online. If you’re not a library member, you can join on the spot, subject to evidence of identity – ask for details. Library members can book computer sessions for up to three hours per session at the Library of Birmingham or up to two hours per session at community libraries.
Every UCL student gets a user ID and password so you can access services. You can join Oxfordshire Libraries for free at any time. Please be aware that you will lose your session if you do not take up your reservation within 10 minutes of the start time. If computers are available when you arrive, you can use them until the next booked session begins. The login screen will tell you how long you have until the next booking. Start reading Understanding Computers, Smartphones, and the Internet on your Kindle in under a minute.
Some of our libraries offer free one-to-one help sessions and regular free sessions for beginners with our computer buddies. Just ask a member of the library team if you need help to access the wifi or when using our computers. You’re welcome to use your own flash drive, but if your device needs to install software or its own drivers it may not work on our computers. Computers and internet access
The computers in the Children’s Library are for use by children and young people. Library computers automatically shut down 15 minutes before the library closes. You will be warned when your session is coming to an end. If you finish early, please log out to save your unused time.
The maximum time is 2 hours per day, not 2 hours per library. There are computers in all our libraries for public use. Please read our internet use policy before using our computers. Wifi is available for library members bringing their own laptops or devices into the library.
