Students on the BMus programme can opt to undertake jazz electives within Academic Studies and Artist Development modules. These help you develop a knowledge of core jazz repertoire, understand how to approach improvisation, and explore the practical aspects of putting together a jazz performance. You’ll also receive specialist tuition from visiting artists and musicians prolific on the professional jazz scene which can include participation in masterclasses and performance projects. If you choose a Combined Honours programme (e.g. Jazz with Popular), your Specialist Study (e.g. one-to-one tuition) would be in Jazz and your Specialist Group Study (e.g. ensemble/band) would be in your second genre.
The total amount of support available is non-means-tested and is paid directly to the student. Please note that the Conservatoire is obliged to offer one audition recording per application. If you are unable to submit your audition recording by the deadline date above, you must email us immediately stating the reason. We have a specific period allocation to audition and all on time applications will receive a decision before Christmas .
In addition to the application fee, each conservatoire charges an audition assessment administration fee. For RCS, the audition assessment administration fee is £65 per programme applied for. The fees are paid via the UCAS Conservatoires website and not directly to RCS. There is a UCAS application fee of £26.50 to register to use UCAS Conservatoires. Apply via UCAS conservatoires Applications are made throughUCAS Conservatoires website. The UCAS Conservatoires application system is separate from the main UCAS undergraduate application system. If you wish to apply to conservatoires and universities within UCAS, you will need to register for both services. Direct entry Applications for direct entry beyond Year 1 will be considered on a case-by-case basis and in accordance with the Royal Conservatoire’s Recognition of Prior Learning policy. If you wish to apply for direct entry, please mark the point of entry on UCAS Conservatoires application as 2 or 3.
The decision to wait and see whether a guaranteed place becomes available, or to accept an offer at another conservatoire is entirely at your discretion. Reserve Conditional RCS has offered a place on its reserve pool subject to you meeting certain conditions such as examination results. The references must be written by two different people and we will not accept references from family, other relatives or close friends.
